How much CBD oil should I take? (PLUS: CBD Oil Dosage Calculator)
"How much CBD oil should I take?"
It's a question we get asked a lot. For newcomers to CBD oil it seems there's a lot to learn at first - what exactly is it? Is it legal? How will it help me? Will it make me high!?
Then you finally buy a bottle (or get given some by a friend)... But now what? More questions.
How much CBD oil should I take? How often should I take it? Do I put it under my tongue? The list goes on.
Don't worry, we're here to help you figure it all out.
How to take CBD oil?
To take CBD oil, use the pipette provided to measure out your dosage and then squeeze the oil under your tongue. Hold it there for 60 seconds before swallowing.
That's it, easy peasy.
The above directions apply to CBD oil drops. If your CBD oil is in a spray format then it's even easier. Spray the CBD oil under your tongue and hold for 60 seconds before swallowing.
We should point out:
You can add CBD oil to your food or drinks but this reduces its effectiveness. Not to mention it may ruin the taste of your meal (newsflash: CBD doesn't taste great!).
How long does it take for CBD oil to work?
Holding the CBD oil under your tongue helps it get into your bloodstream. The longer you hold it there the more CBD gets in via that route.
On average, it takes about 15-20 minutes for CBD oil to start working, and its effect should last for 4 to 6 hours.
But of course this is an average, the actual time can be different for every individual. Your weight, metabolism and diet can all impact how long CBD oil takes to work. (And how long it lasts in your system).
What does CBD oil feel like?
Because of its link to cannabis, lots of people expect some kind of “buzz” from taking CBD oil. But that’s not the case.
In fact, the likelihood is you won’t actually feel much at all.
It’s better to think of CBD oil as a health supplement, like you would with vitamins or minerals. For example, if you take some vitamin D you don’t feel anything, right? Instead you’re taking it to help it nourish your system. The same applies for CBD.
Another comparison is when you take aspirin for a headache. You don’t feel the aspirin working, you simply realise that your headache has gone 20 minutes later.
More often than not, it’s only when you stop taking CBD oil that you notice how much of a difference it was making for you.
(We’ve had so many customers tell us that’s been the case!).
How long should I take CBD oil for?
For most of our customers, CBD oil has become a regular part of their daily routine. Just like taking a vitamin supplement everyday.
For newcomers to CBD oil, we strongly suggest taking it every day for at least a week. That allows your body to get used to the CBD. And allows the CBD to start interacting with your endocannabinoid system.
If after a week of regular usage you’re not feeling much effect, then try increasing your dosage for the next week or so.
Keep in mind the note above ?. For a lot of people they only realise how much CBD oil was helping once they’ve stopped using it.
